I originally purchased an R25 (standing for Rucksack with a 25L capacity). I could go on about the features, but you can read those for yourself (or watch the video below). The real truth is that 3 things make a huge difference with it:1. It’s hugely comfortable. The straps are really easy to adjust, even with gloves on and you can get a really good fit. The 4-point harness system means weight is spread across your chest and waist and you can feel the difference, unlike other bags. You literally forget it’s there after a while. It’s really stable at speed, even in a tuck and that starts with the fit.2. Strapping the weight to your back makes a huge difference. Stability is also due to the compression straps. Adjustable straps that go around the pack will keep all the weight close to you and stop your stuff from moving around. It sounds stupid, but it’s huge. These straps also introduced me to the interlock system I will talk about in a minute.3. It’s really easy to get on and off. Again, this sounds silly but live with a bag for a while. Take it off and put it on with gloves on, in a rush, in a fuel station or something. It’s not easy. Sometimes I just want to get my wallet out of my inner jacket pocket and that means unstrapping the backpack - it’s so much easier with the glove friendly clasps and the large gap between the shoulder and waist straps.
Add all that to the quality of construction, attention to detail and cool look of the R25 and I was sold. I started poking around kriega.com to see what else was interesting. I came across the US10 (Universal bag with a 10L capacity) waterproof tailpack which becomes dual purpose using the tank product. Again, attention to detail is fantastic. There is a white liner in the bag so you can find your stuff more easily, and the compression strap system acts like the one on the R25. The straps also fit under a rear seat to strap it as a tail pack, to the tank product to make it a tank bag or even to the compression straps of the R25 to make it a 35L capacity backpack. This interlocking strap system works across the range and adds a huge amount of usability to each product. The US10 is so impressive in fact that I have purchased a US5 and a US20 also (which fits a 15” notebook according to this video). The whole product range is so cool, useful and elegantly simple (while being feature rich) that I don’t think I will ever buy another brand again. 1 week with Kriega products and I can say that honestly. Check them out before you look elsewhere, they aren’t as expensive as you’d think.
